Message-ID: <428300B5.9030801@artificiallives.com> The last week or so I've been trying to help a friend fix his Gentoo install of Polarblog. He was getting no errors, no php feedback, no nothing. After spending a couple hours troubleshooting I told him that something must be wrong with the way apache/mysql/php were interacting. He went off an investigated and found that by issuing the following command he straightened out all the Mysql/php interconnects so that it started issuing errors and parsing mysql stuff correctly: The super-secret command that fixed Polarblog in Gentoo: emerge -u --newuse --deep --world This posting answers a question posted to the mailing list in Feb if I remember correctly and might also address problems that some of the rest of you I have spoken to in ICQ are having. Another side note is that he was also using Webmin and it was not setting the password to the mysql user correctly so I had to help him manually login to the database and apply the password to the account. Once we did that everything started working. Kevin - it might be wise for you to add this as a FAQ/common problem entry in the documentation since it is a quick fix. The symptoms were: On a Gentoo box after installing polarblog you just get blank pages. PHP appears to be parsing correctly and is issuing no errors at all to the logs or web page but is just showing a blank page. Please let me know if any of you want more information on this problem. -Alan http://www.artificiallives.com -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. I know it did come up once previously and I really had no idea what was causing the problem. It definately seemed to be system related, but not knowing anything about Gentoo I really had nothing to back that theory up. I'll add a note to the documentation next time I update it. Thanks again. -klp Quoting "Alan C." : > The last week or so I've been trying to help a friend fix his Gentoo > install of Polarblog. He was getting no errors, no php feedback, no > nothing.
